Your phone number is associated with one of your alert preferences. Check your notifications and turn the alert(s) off first, then you can delete your phone number. To access your alert settings, sign in to Your Account, and select EDIT PROFILE & ALERTS (yellow button at the top of the page). Scroll down to Alert Settings and select the "on" button(s) to turn the alert(s) off.
