Customer deposits are only requested at the time of starting service if required credit criteria are not met. For residential accounts only, a deposit is reviewed 13 months from the date it was paid in full and, if the account qualifies for a refund, interest is calculated on the deposit and both amounts are applied as a credit to your account.
If there is a balance on your account at that time, it will be deducted from this credit and any remaining credit will be applied to future bills.
An account will normally qualify for a refund of deposit if there have been no more than two "48 hour" notices in the last twelve months. A "48 hour" notice is a notice that your service will be turned off unless you pay your balance due within 48 hours.
If you do not qualify for a refund after 13 months, your account will be re-evaluated monthly, and when you do qualify your deposit will be credited as described above.
In Lieu of Deposit Program:
Customers who enroll in the In Lieu of Deposit Program during the Start of Service or prior to receiving their first bill will have their deposits waived at the time of enrollment. This means that a deposit will not be billed to the account.
Customers who enrolled in the In Lieu of Deposit Program after receiving a bill for their deposit will have the deposit amount credited to their PG&E account. The deposit amount credit will be reflected on the bill subsequent to their enrollment.
