The High Usage Surcharge was added in March 2017 to the Tiered Rate Plan. The High Usage Surcharge is only applied when the usage exceeds four times the Baseline Allowance.
PG&E offers a variety of resources that can help, like High Usage Alerts which notify you when you are at risk of incurring the surcharge so that you can take immediate steps to reduce your usage. We also offer the Home Energy Checkup which shows you where your home uses the most energy, and the Electric Rate Plan Comparison Tool, which shows you rate plan options that are not subject to the High Usage Surcharge.
To take the Home Energy Checkup, Enroll in Energy Alerts and learn more about our Tiered Rate Plan, visit our Understand the PG&E Tiered Rate Plan (E-1) page.
