The following is information regarding the markings on trees:
- A “dot” means trimming/pruning
- An “X” means removal
- A “double dot” means a minimum amount of tree work is required to protect the electric asset. This decision is made by the tree crews and may be as minimal as pruning or removing a tree branch.
- Numbers on the tree will indicate the diameter of the tree.
The following is information regarding flagging on a bush or if a tree cannot be painted:
- Pruning: 12-inch flagging is tied to a branch.
- Removal: flagging is TIED around the trunk
There are occasions when painting/flagging cannot be applied, either by customer request or inaccessibility.
Different paint colors are used to identify program years and distribution vs. transmission assignments.
The tree below illustrates the various markings used by members of the PG&E Vegetation Management Team to designate:
This photo serves as an example of types of tree marking. When markings show different colors on one tree, it indicates a previous year’s work. (This example shows 3 different color dots, which would mean previous years markings for trim.)
