These efforts are an extreme measure in response to the equally extreme drought and wildfire conditions present in our state, even during non-Red Flag Warning conditions. It will be used when wildfire potential is the greatest, usually in late summer and fall.
To help further reduce wildfire risk, we are implementing a fast trip setting for some circuits in High Fire-Threat Districts (HFTD).
This will automatically turn off the flow of electricity faster if a foreign object contacts an energized line or there is an issue with the equipment.
Terms also used to refer to Enhanced Power Line Safety Settings are Fast Trip, Fast Trip Settings, and Hot Line Tags.
