Enhanced Power Line Safety Settings (EPSS) make our system safer for our customers. It may also result in longer-duration customer outages; field crews must inspect the entire circuit - and perform any necessary repairs - before restoring power. We recognize that this is a hardship for customers, but it is essential for safety and to help prevent wildfires.
The patrols will be conducted either on the ground or in the air. Crews will restore customers in stages, as individual portions of the circuit are deemed safe and ready for re-energization. Ground patrols may need to be conducted on foot in very steep and challenging terrain with limited access.
Terms also used to refer to Enhanced Power Line Safety Settings are Fast Trip, Fast Trip Settings, and Hot Line Tags.
